Character Letters are fun and exciting!

It is a personal business where you write letters to children on behalf of their favorite characters. These characters could range from much loved holiday personalities such as Santa Clause, Easter Bunny or year round personalities such as the Tooth Fairy or personalities which you have created.

If you are a child at heart who loves the holiday seasons and the magic surrounding it and if you adore children this venture would suit you perfectly. All you need is some creativity and a load of imagination. By following the below checklist you can start your character letters business with ease.

1. Business Plan

It is essential that you create a business plan for your business no matter how small it is. In this you should include information such as the business history, summary of the business, management information, designing & production plan, financial plan, estimated sales, etc. As your business grows and expands you can refer to it to manage your growth and change.

2. Naming and Legalizing Your Business

You should select a solid business name which reflects on you or your business and proceed to license your business. Ensure that the name of the business is pleasing to you since changing it again would involve a lot of hassle.

3. Selecting Your Characters

Decide on the characters you would be using for your business. Would you be only using holiday characters? Would you be using year round characters? Or would you rather create your own characters? The choice is up to you. Depending on the time and energy you can commit to the business, decide on the number of characters that you would use. It is always better to start off with a few characters and add new ones as your business gets more established.

4. Verifying the Correct Equipment & Supplies

A reliable computer and a color printer are the essentials required to operating your new home business. Depending on the characters that you have selected to use, you can then select the matching stationary that would be required. To add more excitement to the letters you can add fun trinkets and crafts. These also should be matched up with the characters which you have chosen. For example holiday recipes, stickers, fun craft projects, etc. You should also select the postage stamps which are more appropriate with the letters and/or your characters.

5. Client Management

Another important aspect to your venture is client management. You should have a way to easily access the order information. Sorting the orders by the order date or the child’s age would allow you to easily retrieve information. You can use a software program or the manual filing system for this.

6. Creating A Marketing Strategy

To make your business successful marketing plays a major role. It is important that you identify your potential clients, who would require your service and inform them about your venture. There are many marketing strategies available. You should select one which suits you and your budget well. Marketing should be a continuous process.

7. Fees & Pricing

When fixing your fee/prices make sure that it is accurate as possible. Also it should be a competitive fee/price. It is better to do some research and find out what the rates may be in the market. Always remember never to overprice or to sell your services short.
